This fortress was not only part of Moldovia, but once it used to be a large town.

In the huge valley near the river Reut there was a castle with embattled walls. Inside the castle there were workshops, where many handicraftsmen were working.

They were making various goods: bricks, tiles, objects of ceramics and bronze, etc. Many times the enemy tried to take over the fortress, but each time they were repulsed by its defenders. Once the town was besieged by the Turks. Their hordes were permanently attacking the fortifications, but the defenders bravely resisted.

The fortress fell because of a traitor. It was the son of the Chief Magistrate who fell in love with Marioara, the fiancee of a brave soldier, Andrey. He decided to get the girl by mean actions.

On the thirty first night the sky was covered with black clouds. The Chief Magistrate`s son sneaked out of the fortress, crossed the Reut and came to the tent of the Turkish pasha, threw himself to pasha`s feet and told him how to conquer the fortress. In the morning the Turks pretended to retreat. Suffering of thirst all the guards of the fortress rushed out of the fortress to bring water from the river. The Turkish cavalry got out of their hiding and slaughtered them. The Old Orhey fell.

But the son of the Chief Magistrate couldn`t get the girl he loved. The Turks treated him in their way: they poured melted gold into his throat-the amount of gold he asked for his treachery.

The town was ruined. The inhabitants that remained alive ran to forests or moved to some other places and did not return back any more.
